"About 2:00 A.M. on May 21 [1875], the train entered the pine woods and dense palmetto growth along the Florida border...Later that day, the passengers disembarked at Jacksonville, Florida, and boarded a steamer to Tocoi. They walked a gangplank to board the boat, which carried them up the St. Johns River to another train station.
