Curing Buffalo Hides, Yellowstone River, Northern Cheyenne
-
During his career at Yankton, Morrow issued several different selections of his images, with the same pictures re-numbered each time. The Northern Cheyenne village series appeared among his earliest images, first issued in 1869-70. These are among the most important photographs ever made of Plains Indian people, illustrating the entire process of utilizing the meat and hides of the buffalo, the foundation technology of Plains Indian culture. Here, one can see the entire process in various stages.
