Guthrie on April 22, 1889. Here is the first group of prospective settlers to arrive in Guthrie on the opening day. They came by train, and are seen taking possession of the hillside around the land office. Many already have staked lots and are crowding around the land office to file on their holdings. Before nightfall more than 18,000 persons pushed and shoved for space to pitch a tent on the 320 acres the government said was enough for a townsite.
