The Donald C. & Elizabeth M. Dickinson Research Center's digital collections primarily focus on the photographic collections of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, encompassing topics such as the history of rodeo and the diverse American West as well as western popular culture and art.

Primary resources are a reflection of their time and may be visually disturbing or have language that is harmful.

This collection contains silver gelatin prints, albumen prints, collodion print-out paper prints, and nitrate negatives. The images show cowboys working cattle, including branding, as well as bullfighting, matadors, ranches, including the V V N Ranch and the XIT Springlake Ranch. There are family portraits as well.

The photographs in this collection show trick ropers and riders Leonard Stroud and his wife Mayme Saunders Stroud performing their acts at rodeos in the 1920s and 1930s. It also features other rodeo contestants and entertainment acts.

Lt. Colonel John M. Hamilton was a soldier whose career spanned almost 40 years, from the Civil War through the Indian Wars, until finally ending with his death on San Juan Hill during the Spanish-American War. This collection contains photographs and drawings from the late 19th century.
