Written on back of photo: Hunting Horse (Tsa-to-Kee) Kiowa, Winter of 1846. Joined Custer's 7th Cavalry as Indian scout. Phil Sheridan and William T. Sherman were his friends. In 1890 Hunting Horse took up farming on his 160 acre allotment at Saddle Mountain in the Wichita Mountains. He lived here with his two wives and reared five children. His son Monroe Tsa-to-Kee was an internationally known artist. He never learned to speak English.
